JAMES ROBERT WEBB RELEASES REIMAGINED VERSION OF “TULSA TIME” – SPINNING NOW ON SIRIUSXM WILLIE’S ROADHOUSE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 22, 2019) – Country artist James Robert Webb released his reimagined version of the hit “Tulsa Time.” Drawing listeners in with his captivating voice from the moment he starts singing, James brings his mix of modern and classic country to life in his take on the standard, sent to No. 1 by Don Williams in 1978 and has also been recorded by Eric Clapton, Reba McEntire, Jason Boland & The Stragglers and more. “To me, western swing music is the world’s best antidepressant. My grandparents introduced me to it and told me stories about back in the day when they would listen to Bob Wills playing at the Cain’s Ballroom live on KVOO every Saturday. I remember hearing ‘Tulsa Time’ all the time when I was a kid, I thought everyone had a song about where they lived! Through the years, I’ve come to see each of those legendary icons as key threads in the rich tapestry of Tulsa music. I couldn’t think of any better way to pay homage to my hometown than combining western swing and this incredible song in my own special way,” said James Robert Webb, adding, “when Buddy and I started working on this project we both connected over our common love for western swing and knew we wanted to tip the hat to the genre.”
“When I was a little kid we didn’t have a record player, but my Uncle who lived just up the road had a nice big cabinet which sounded great. He liked to listen to every kind of country music as long as it was played well and had a pretty nice collection of 78 RPM records and would let me join anytime I liked. Among those were some Bob Wills – that’s where my love for western swing was born I suppose. I’ve always loved it, I’ve also always loved Don Williams. I had not thought of cutting the song with a swing beat until I started to work on James’ record. I just started going through my brain thinking of songs about Tulsa that may work with that feel and Tulsa Time was the song that seemed to work best,” said Buddy Cannon.
Webb has over 400,000 streams on Spotify and has performed at acclaimed venues such as the Ryman Auditorium, Cain’s Ballroom and The Bluebird Cafe, to name a few. James has had his past three singles chart in the MusicRow Country Breakout Chart, the last two in the top 25.
