Emily Ann Roberts is kicking off what promises to be a big year with her highly-anticipated, barn burner “He Set Her Off,” available everywhere now.
This new single from the East Tennessee songstress showcases her at her very best and accentuates her edgier side. Singing about what happens when a woman finds her husband “in her bed with that blonde,” Emily Ann’s vocals are on fire as she rips through the story of a wife done wrong. Written with Seth Mosley and Parker Welling and produced by Trent Willmon (Cody Johnson, Granger Smith) Emily Ann’s bread and butter is a fiddle-ridden lively rhythm with spectacular vocals, and she’s steadily cementing herself as one of the genre’s most promising artists. Lord help the man who don’t how strong
a woman can be when somebody does her wrong
he lit that fuse in her bed with that blonde
now the house is up in flames
his clothes are on the lawn
thought she was fragile like a flower
but she’s fragile like a bomb
yeah he set her off
“I’d read a quote somewhere that said, ‘he thought she was fragile like a flower but she was fragile like a bomb,'” said Emily Ann, adding, “I brought that into this session with Seth and Parker, and they loved it. Just that idea that all actions have consequences. And also how there are all these country songs about women going nutso on their men. Chances are, something or someone made them crazy in that way. They weren’t crazy on their own. I saved this song for three years, and now when I play it at shows or writers’ rounds, everyone seems to love it, so I know people can relate to that idea.”
After racking up over 16,000 pre-saves and 6 million cumulative views on TikTok, fans have been steadfast in asking Roberts to release “He Set Her Off” since she started teasing it early this year. This “Goodbye Earl”-esque release has had fans saying “revenge country is the best genre” and “angry lady giving herself some old-fashioned justice is my favorite!”
Emily Ann capped off 2022 with 20 million cumulative streams and 16 overall performances on the famous Grand Ole Opry stage. Her October release, “Whole Lotta Little” has garnered over three million streams and has had viral success on TikTok. In November, Roberts released a gorgeous ballad and accompanying music video, “The Building” about her home church in Knoxville, Tenn. which has seen placements with CMT, Taste of Country, CMT Australia, CMC-TV and more. About Emily Ann Roberts
They say the way to the biggest stage is practice, practice, practice. And that’s exactly what Emily Ann Roberts has done, paying her dues from tiny stages in Knoxville to the biggest stage of all, the Grand Ole Opry. Since launching her career, Roberts has now played the coveted Opry stage 16 times. Before that, she made a name for herself on Blake Shelton’s team on The Voice before she’d even graduated from high school. In a way, being named as a runner-up was the biggest win of all. Because now, with all of that performing, songwriting and recording experience, Roberts has already racked up more than 19 million streams and was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s Best Acts of CMA Fest. Growing up in East Tennessee, Roberts was raised on Smoky Mountain music, bluegrass players, and country artists from every era: from Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton to Miranda Lambert and Cody Johnson. And all of that has prepared her to bring the country back to country music. Working with producer Trent Willmon means she’s collaborating with some of Nashville’s most prolific songwriters. So now, Roberts finds herself surrounded by people who are like-minded about making country music that will make its mark in the studio and on the stage. “I am passionate about entertaining. I do love singing, and songwriting has become a means to an end for me. I write so that I can take those songs and perform them, not the other way around.” With that, it’s safe to say that country music is in good hands with Roberts.
