Emily Ann Roberts is kicking off what promises to be a big year with her highly-anticipated, barn burner “He Set Her Off,” available everywhere now.
This new single from the East Tennessee songstress showcases her at her very best and accentuates her edgier side. Singing about what happens when a woman finds her husband “in her bed with that blonde,” Emily Ann’s vocals are on fire as she rips through the story of a wife done wrong. Written with Seth Mosley and Parker Welling and produced by Trent Willmon (Cody Johnson, Granger Smith) Emily Ann’s bread and butter is a fiddle-ridden lively rhythm with spectacular vocals, and she’s steadily cementing herself as one of the genre’s most promising artists. “I’d read a quote somewhere that said, ‘he thought she was fragile like a flower but she was fragile like a bomb,'” said Emily Ann, adding, “I brought that into this session with Seth and Parker, and they loved it. Just that idea that all actions have consequences. And also how there are all these country songs about women going nutso on their men. Chances are, something or someone made them crazy in that way. They weren’t crazy on their own. I saved this song for three years, and now when I play it at shows or writers’ rounds, everyone seems to love it, so I know people can relate to that idea.”
After racking up over 16,000 pre-saves and 6 million cumulative views on TikTok, fans have been steadfast in asking Roberts to release “He Set Her Off” since she started teasing it early this year. This “Goodbye Earl”-esque release has had fans saying “revenge country is the best genre” and “angry lady giving herself some old-fashioned justice is my favorite!”
Emily Ann capped off 2022 with 20 million cumulative streams and 16 overall performances on the famous Grand Ole Opry stage. Her October release, “Whole Lotta Little” has garnered over three million streams and has had viral success on TikTok.
