NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 10, 2021) — Country-pop singer/songwriter Amanda Cooksey is releasing an exciting new song to wrap up the summer, “Wish You Were Here.” A clever play on the familiar postcard sentiment, “Wish You Were Here” is Amanda’s message to an uncaring ex after a particularly hard, but inspiring, breakup. Written by Cooksey, Michael August, Steve Lester, and Austin Nivareal, the melody is bubbly while the lyrics tell an all too familiar story for anyone who has ever been on the receiving end of heartbreak.

“It’s black out shades here in my bedroom
Ice cream pints stuffed full of tissues
Heard your happy wherever you are
But if i could send you a postcard it’d say

Wish you were here
Feeling all of my pain
Feeling like it’s your fault
I wish like hell you felt something at all
I wish you were, wish you were, wish you were here”

“Wish You Were Here” was one of my favorite songs to write and record. I came up with a tongue in cheek twist on the phrase “wish you were here” that I hope people can relate with if they are going through a breakup. My co-writers really helped me encapsulate the feeling of this particular stage of the heartbreak I went through two years ago. It has a similar beachy feel as my previous single “In Denial” and I am excited to share the complete journey of healing these songs have brought me through,” said Amanda Cooksey.

Her willingness to take risks and carve out new areas of artistry places Amanda into a special category, among many of her genre bending inspirations like Taylor Swift, Julia Michaels and Lennon Stella. She has seen success with recent releases, including “What’s His Name” and “In Denial,” both of which have garnished support from Spotify and will be on her debut concept album Him. Amanda is excited to unveil the connection each song has with the release of her album later this year.
