Nashville, Tenn. (November 23, 2020) — Singer/songwriter, Sam Varga, will be dropping the “Half Heart Hallelujah” single and music video on November 27. It will be distributed by 117 Music/The Orchard and available on Youtube and on all streaming platforms. The single is another example of Sam’s unique style of dynamic sounds with emotional lyrics spiced with a genre fusing vocal. The video was shot at Santa’s Pub in Nashville with the help of Santa himself and many mini bourbons. Pre-save “Half Heart Hallelujah” here.

“I wrote this song Christmas morning in the fetal position on the couch of my childhood home,” commented Varga. “A recent breakup and death of a family member met the Christmas Eve-hometown bar-hangover and made a holiday cocktail that just put me on my ass. I wrote half of it there that morning and finished it off in Nashville. And this song in particular really spurred about a six-month writing period.”

Sam has established himself as a serious songwriter and dynamic performer after only two blurry years living in Nashville. Varga blends the fast-paced punk scene of his high school days in Louisville with the singer/songwriter muscle he’s developed in Nashville, giving his music an edge and energy that stands out in Music City. Sam’s sound and writing style is self-described as “Punk Jackson Browne.”

After quickly coming up through the songwriting ranks writing honest songs on acoustic guitar, Sam released his debut single “Sex & Whiskey,” a high energy road-trip anthem and his second single, “Mayday,” a self deprecating hymn written to combat a depression by taking ownership of it. His music video for “When She Falls” was warmly received by the media and was shot on the empty streets of downtown Nashville during the early days of the pandemic.

These first three singles are on Sam’s debut five-song Light Me Up EP, which is a combustion of rock dynamics, Nashville song craft, and dark one-liners. Light Me Up represents the beginning of Sam’s journey but pulls no punches as to who he is and what he’s capable of as a writer and artist. Sam sold out his EP release show at the Basement and regularly plays Nashville staples like Whiskey Jam, Buscall and The Listening Room.

“Half Heart Hallelujah” continues the story of self-deprecating wit and addresses bouts of depression, failed relationships and the beauty and truth in between.
